Jackie Klein is a painter and printmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. Her early, atelier style training is evident in her interest in light and figuration. She graduated with a BA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2019. Though most compositional elements in her paintings are drawn from everyday life, it is their odd placement and re-contextualization that creates a mysterious, otherworldly feel. A collection of floating objects overlap in crowded compositions. Romantic details such as backlit wisps of hair or a dark silhouette create a cinematic quality. The compositions seem to recede, drawing the viewer deeper into another world. Jackie’s background in classical ballet, or creating a portal through performance, is reflected in her dynamic, balanced compositions. Like a dancer drawing the audience’s eye around the stage through subtle movements of her hands or eyes, she illuminates details, reveals and conceals edges, and highlights what is beautiful and important.
